NGN Case Q: The nurse is inserting a nasogastric tube in a 9 year old child client. During the procedure, the client begins to gagging, coughing, and turning blue. What is the most appropriate action?


1. Comfort the child until calm, and notify the health care provider.

2. Remove the tube and reinsert it when the respiratory distress subsides.

3. Pull back on the tube and wait until the respiratory distress subsides.

4. Insert a syringe into the end of the tube and pull back gently.
